Police arrest escaped prison inmate in Folsom | Crime
FOLSOM, CA - Police arrested a man, who escaped from the California State Prison in Folsom Sunday, in Folsom Monday evening.
Marco A. Cabrera was arrested near Green Valley Road and Shadowfax Lane around 6:30 p.m. by Folsom police.
According to Jason Browning of the Folsom Police Dept., Cabrera managed to escape prison confines on Sunday. Later that day, area residents thwarted an attempted car theft on the 100 block of Esplinade Circle by an individual matching Cabrera's description.
"I blocked him in there and he came over to me with the keys," said area resident Grace Mclaughlin after she says she drove behind Cabrera and forced him off the road.
"He got out and walked up to me and was like, oh, I just wanted to get to Sacramento. He gave me the keys to the car and I was like, are you serious?" Mclaughlin said Cabrera then grabbed her phone off her lap and ran.
Cabrera was able to evade capture and fled into the surrounding area.
Folsom police officers and K-9 units searched the area, but were unsuccessful in locating Cabrera Sunday night.
People living on Shadowfax lane said they spotted Cabrera after he came out from hiding behind a home.
"The whole night, we kept hearing noises in the back yard," said Danielle Wirtz. She and her family believe Cabrera had been hiding behind their guest house. They found a pad from the lawn furniture tucked under a few redwood trees.
Wirtz said the man who rents the guest house found Cabrera standing in his driveway. She said Cabrera asked to use the phone. But, the rentor was suspicious so he went inside to get a gun instead. Cabrera ran away.
Several neighbors called 911. Folsom police say they arrested Cabrera a few minutes later as he was walking down the road.
