FOLSOM, CA - The body of a newborn baby was discovered in the backyard of a Folsom home on Sunday, according to Folsom police Sgt. Chris Emery.
Emery said a couple returned to their home in the 1900 block of Tyndrum Lane just before 4 p.m., after being away on vacation. They told police they saw something unusual in their yard and found the baby.
The Sacramento County Coroner's office hadn't completed the baby's autopsy as of 4 p.m. Monday, but did say the baby is a girl.
Investigators spent hours Sunday night at the scene, trying to determine if a crime had been committed.
Emery said there were no obvious signs of foul play, but the autopsy would be conducted to be certain one way or the other.
He also said one of several possibilities detectives were looking into was whether or not the baby was stillborn.
A spokeswoman for the Sacramento County Coroner's Office said definitive answers could take weeks, pending the results of other tests.
Neighbors told News10 a teenage girl, around 17 or 18, lives in the home where the baby was found in the backyard.
It's important to note detectives have not acknowledged her, nor said if she has anything to do with this baby's death.
