The man supposedly robbed the Wells Fargo Bank at 1113 East Bidwell Street at 5:11 p.m. and was spotted by an off-duty officer leaving the bank with an assault rifle, Folsom police Sgt. Jason Browning said.
In his attempt to run from police, the man ended up on the roof of a nearby Target, ran the length of the building, jumped into a nearby backyard on School Street and ran into the house.
When the man came out of the home, officers were on the street. Browning said the man ran back inside the home and was found in a back bedroom.
A 24-year veteran of the force shot the suspect in the back. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have not found an assault rifle.
Browning did not say which agency the officer who shot the suspect belonged to.
