ADA lawsuit attorney sues disabled Folsom bar owner
News

SACRAMENTO, CA - A Sacramento attorney known for filing ADA lawsuits is at it again.

Scott Johnson claims he's an agent of change for the rights of the disabled. He has filed more than 2,000 lawsuits. This time he targeted a business run by a man in a wheelchair.

Veteran Dennis Dority owns and runs CitySlickers in Folsom. He has been in a wheelchair for the past 6 years.

Last year, Johnson, a quadrapeligic, filed suit against CitySlickers, saying that Dority's business is violating the civil rights of the handicapped.

Being handicapped, Dority said he's willing to make sure everything is up to code for himself and everyone else around him.

After a brief visit at Dority's bar, Johnson pushed ahead with a lawsuit. Johnson complained about the ramp outside being too steep. He complained about two public bathrooms not being up to code, according to Dority.

Dority said he never had a chance to make the modifications. Instead, Johnson reached a settlement with Dority's attorney for $2,000. Johnson is known to settle on cases for up to $8,000.

"He's not campaigning or crusading for poor little handicapped people. He is out trying to make a fast buck," Dority said.

Johnson didn't want to comment on the lawsuit or the settlement. He said that there's nothing about the action that's frivolous. He also told News10 that he limited the potential monetary damages to Dority's business.
