Photo Gallery | Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Exec. Director Paula Birdsong gives special thanks to eLife Adventure Volunteers!

Paula Birdsong’s presence on May 18, as Executive Director of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, was very exciting and appreciated as she was the guest of honor wishing to personally thank eLife Adventure volunteers for their commitment of time, energy, enthusiasm and professionalism as they handed out shirts, helped with registration, greeted each runner and cheered on the personal triumphs of the runners for the Race For The Cure!

Paula, a very warm and personable woman is on a mission, and in her own words shares:

“I came to Susan G. Komen 8 months ago after the former ED retired. My passion has always been to be the voice for those who can’t speak for themselves. I am motivated to do this work for my 3 girlfriends who are all survivors; a one-time survivor, two time survivor and a three time survivor. Mostly, being a part of the fight to find a cure that may benefit my daughter one day is the primary inspiration that I carry every day.”

Paula’s commitment to the Cure is foremost in her heart.  She inspires those with whom she comes into contact and on this eve, two breast cancer survivors and one ovarian cancer survivor were recognized by Paula as she hugged and congratulated them for the internal strength needed in the battles they faced.  As eLife volunteers and friends of eLife attended this evening, tears ran freely ~ that of thankfulness, hopefulness and great faith that The Cure will be found!

As the evening of 60+ volunteers from eLife who participated in the Race for the Cure was wrapping up, Paula felt much gratitude for the support given freely from those volunteers who have already committed to volunteering next year!

“Over 1,000 volunteers were on-hand to help our participants have a memorable experience at this year’s event. eLife Adventure volunteers were new to the Sacramento Race, but far from rookies. They took on the task of manning the registration booth and did an outstanding job!! Our team was so appreciate of their work ethic and we truly hope that they will join us again for next year’s Race!” quoting Paula.

eLife supports Race for the Cure:  eLife's commitment to our community Mother's Day Weekend 2012!

"Early on Saturday morning of Mother's Day weekend, 3,000 runners gathered at Cal Expo for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. In addition to seasoned athletes, the race attracted breast cancer survivors along with their family and friends. All were united to raise funds to fight the disease that claims a life every 69 seconds.

The theme of this year's event was Rock the Race, and our eLife volunteers did just that. With their endless enthusiasm and bright smiles, they handed out shirts, helped with registration, greeted each runner, and cheered on the personal triumphs of the runners.

The volunteers' personal sacrifices did not go unnoticed. Organizers of the race were amazed by the upbeat attitude and dedication of the eLife friends.

Hurray for eLife! You are one of the most organized volunteer groups that I have ever had the pleasure to work with. And you're so much fun! Your support and dedication contributed to another great run. Thank you, thank you!
